Dublin Theatre
The Abbey Theatre first opened in December 1904 and despite being burned down in 1951 it has continued in existence to the present day.
Since 1966, the Abbey has been located at Lower Abbey Street, Dublin
The theatre was closely associated with the writers of the Irish Literary Revival at first. and staged the plays of many of the leading Irish playwrights of the 20th century, including W B Yeats, Lady Gregory, Sean O'Casey and John Millington Synge.
In latter years, it has become a major Irish tourist attraction.
Dublin's newest Theatre is the Grand Canal Theatre which opened in 2010. With a capacity of about 2000 it stages a very diverse programme of theatrical experiences to meet everyone's passion and interests including Ballets, Musicals, Family Shows, Drama, Concerts, Comedy, Orchestral and Opera.
Dublin Theatre Festival is one of Europe’s oldest theatre festivals - on the go since 1957! This annual Festival stages major international theatre and has hosted productions by the world’s greatest playwrights, as well as the best of Irish theatre.
